General Information On Hawaii Criminal Records
In Hawaii, criminal records remain available to the public through various resources. They are also available locally with physical record files. This information may be available in numerous instances, especially in situations in which the individual wishes to verify his or her own criminal record. The state of Hawaii does offer a great deal of information within these files. Obtaining that information does require some time, though, since most requests for data can take several weeks to obtain. However, several other steps are available individuals can take to gather information.

In Hawaii, criminal records contain a great deal of information. Government agencies at the state, county and local level provide information to the Hawaii Criminal Justice Department for collection. It is then compiled into files based on the identifying information available for the individual. These records will include personally identifying information including pictures, the names of individuals, nicknames, date of birth and Social Security numbers as well as other related information. The files contain information about all arrests the individual was involved in, including minor infractions, misdemeanors and felony charges. This includes both those instances in which the individual is found guilty and those when he or she is found not guilty. In most cases, fingerprints are also a part of these files.

In order to obtain a copy of any Hawaii criminal records, it is best to access the Hawaii Criminal Justice Department. To do so, call the agency at 808 587-3100. It is also possible to gather information through accessing the Criminal Data Center website for a full search. There is a fee for using these tools to access information. That fee is currently $15 and is an administrative fee.

If the information contained at the Hawaii Criminal Justice Department is not enough or does not contain information needed in some way, it is best to turn to local authorities. Towns keep records independent of the state's record keeping system on the incidents occurring in that area. This information can provide a wealth of information for those who need it. However, it is also necessary to know which incidents an individual was considered a part of to request this information. It is filed by incident in most cases, not by individual.

Another resource for getting Hawaii criminal records is the sheriff’s office. This is often were the correctional facilities are and that is where much of the information necessary about a felony convicted individual will be stored. However, individuals will not have direct access to the evidence or the file itself. Only verification of information or a copy is available.

In Hawaii, criminal records are considered accurate. Individuals who wish to learn if his or her own record contains only accurate information can do so by following the same steps above through the Hawaii Criminal Justice Department Data Base. If errors are found, contact the agency by phone to request the information be removed. Upon verification of the authenticity, the agency will take the appropriate action to remove this information.
